About Us
General
We are a group of artists, who are interested in statements and (sometimes unintentional) art done by anonymous on public property. We also like it when stuff is missing, particularly letters or explanations.

This is also about words. Isn't it scary that signs lose letters and we put them right back in our mind? How come nobody replaces them? I can't talk and omit letters, expecting everybody to understand me - what makes those signs so special? To be witnessing decay is a very good feeling I guess.

Also: why do people communicate by using a public wall? Why don't they stand on the corner and say "zoom" or "garlic" or "snobs" all day?
'Cause they are cowards!

A happy world for us is a world with missing letters in every single sign but full of useless silly tags. The whole world is a book, we just have to read it in the right order.

Anyway: Everybody, yes, everybody is invited to join LostCharacters and help us get closer to our goal: To build an extensively rich database of artistic photographic images depicting the state of mind of fellow humans - and signs.

History
It all started when Felix saw this, and we agreed, that there is a lot of silly stuff out there if you pay attention to details.

It keeps amazing us how many people out there are writing stuff for/to no one in particular. Or accusing everybody to be snobs or bitches all over Vienna.
And then there are signs with the purpose to inform the public, except nobody knows what they mean. Check out this one!
The Idea
The idea here at LostCharacters is to try and figure out those urban mysteries.
Multicolored and intricate 'beautiful' graffiti is not what we are interested in, same goes for pure nonsense or templates.
Uploading
Feel free to spike up your pictures in your favorite Photoeditor, but don't make stuff up or alter the meaning electronically.
Please don't upload pictures of your boyfriend doing a skateboard trick in front of a LostCharacter™. Leave the boyfriend out.
And comment why you like the pic or what you think the reason for this tag is.
Duplicates: Don’t worry about uploading a picture of a subject that might already exist in our Database, if we detect duplicates, we will see if we keep both of them.
Categories
We have decided to categorize the pictures as follows:
